International model Lorena Diaz shares the highlights of her career and when it all started.

How and when did you begin your modeling career?

When I was a child I never thought about a modelling career. The education that my parents gave to me was not about appearing in fashion magazines or runways. I remember that it was a winter day already a few years ago. I had a feeling or a premonition while on holiday with my family and I just lowered my head and smiled. I thought: ” too difficult and too much to sacrifice. Many fights and cries if I do not get it”; but I am constant and hard-working … why not? ” I contacted an agency and at the beginning I know that I had much to fight for. I am proud because I know that I´ve preserved my education from day one. I believe that it´s dificult for a model to be well-known or become a top model, but I do not mind, I suposed that there is not enough podiums for all.

What is your most memorable modeling experience?

I have many memories, thankfully they all have been good. I have learned what life is all about. I remember with a big smile the only time that I walked on a runway covered with water was for the opening a fashion show. Some people in the front-row were getting wet with every step I took. Another memory I have was while shooting a designer took me in his arms up to a field where it was raining. Awaiting me was a horse to take the perfect picture on the mountain top. The last memory that I recall at this moment with a smile is whenever a good professional offers me an interview. I admire the people who trust in me and dedicate their time to me.

Name one of your favorite fashion designers, what is so compelling about this designer?

A name would be very difficult. I bet for the Spanish fashion designers since it is very rich in shades and they know how to dress all kinds of women. If I had to mention to some icon I would say Dior, I believe that Dior can do art from a few fabrics. Their creations are feminine, elegant, and everything what a woman wants to be. I also love the exquisite sobriety of Balenciaga and Chanel.

Do you listen to music on the set in order to loosen up? If so which musical artist do you listen to and why?

I don´t usually listen to music to loosen up. I can abstract myself when I am backstage and it’s filled with people talking loudly or even shouting. It´s just a moment when my heart is beating fast seconds before the beggining of the fashion show. As soon as I step on to the runway my heartbeat relaxes. My favorite music to listen to relax myself is chill out or instrumental movie soundtracks.

Is there a photographer you would like to work with and you haven’t yet?

Albert Watson. Every one of his pictures are really alive. He really captures what a human being cannot remember after a look.

What do you love most about modeling?

I love most about modeling that I have beautiful pictures and remembrances to say to my futures great-grandsons.

Many models transition from modeling to acting, have you ever considered acting?

Yes, I have some interesting proposals but I don´t believe that I will become solely a professional actress.

What are your future goals as a model?

I think that a career as a model does not depend on your efforts but having the opportunity to demonstrate them. So I do not deal when people of this bussiness label a model as top model since it´s not sense that they allude to someone has come to the “last step” of a career when they usually pretend promote a model to work better. I think that there is not a summit or a top in a modeling career and if it exists I think there will not be nobody smilling congratulating you about how perfect you are. The best models that I´ve ever met are unknown and even they have worked hard and not yet gotten the chance to show it.

This summer I have been lucky enough to land one the best PR Assistant’s. Brette Kreyer has been working with me for a little over two months. She is a recent graduate from St. Bonaventure University with a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. Brette is currently working and living in the Buffalo metropolitan area and is looking to shift her sights to New York City as she moves forward in her career. Since joining Manchester Public Relations Brette hopes to be able to apply her marketing experience and education to grow in the public relations field as it relates to the fashion industry.
