Through the faboulous world of social networking I met Chrys Ioannou. Below Chrys shares her passion for her company and jewelry.
How long have you been designing jewelry?
I started designing jewelry in 2002. My first foray into jewelry design was with sterling silver and semi precious stones.
You describe your work as “a mixture of vintage, vintage inspired and modern designs.” Do you feel that other designers take this approach? Do you feel this is what makes your designs more unique?
I feel that many designers take the approach of designing jewelry that has a vintage inspired feel with a modern twist while some incorporate vintage pieces in their designs. Indeed, I want my designs to be unique by seeking out brass stampings made by vintage tool die. What really makes my line unique is that I hand antique most of my brass pieces, which involves a special technique I’ve developed which involves tumbling and antiquing the pieces and then sealing them to prevent them from tarnishing faster.
Do you make custom made pieces?
My brass pendants are stampings from vintage tool die. A company stamps them for me and I receive them in their raw brass state. Then, I hand antique them using the technique I mentioned. Custom work ranges from customers wanting to add a special stone to the piece or making the necklace with multiple chains. I definitely work with the customer and accommodate their wishes where possible.
How has your experience been with Etsy?
My experience with Etsy has been great. It offers a artisan marketplace for artists of all kinds which is very inspirational. Etsy’s blog and storque articles are very helpful with a ton of tips on how to better your shop and how to promote it.

What are your future plans for Chrys Designs Jewelry?
I will be incorporating more modern inspired jewelry such as sterling silver, semi precious stones, gold plated and gold filled jewelry. I will definitely be adding more color.
