One on One Interview with Recovered Vintage

Recovered Vintage is one of the many impressive sellers on Etsy.com.  After discovering this lovely shop I decided to interview Misty Incontrera to learn more about her and Recovered Vintage.

Recovered Vintage is the name of your company, how did you come up with that name?

I have always loved vintage clothes. I used to wear antique hats after school in high school( I had to wear a uniform, all girls school). When I find pieces, I feel like I’m reclaiming and saving them. These pieces were once loved by someone else and now I will appreciate them, thus RECOVERing them.

The pieces sold on your online store are from various decades. Which decade if any do you have a fondness for, what about this time period’s style gravitates to you the most?

I go through stages of loving and wearing different eras. But I’ve always felt most connected with the 30′s, 40′s and early 50′s.

Every night I listen to my favorite “old time radio” podcasts of mysteries and scary stories from those times. Those years seemed like a time when quality was more important then quantity. You had a great basic dress or suit and used your accessories to change it up.

What makes your vintage store stand out against all the others?

There are so many great vintage etsy sites that I admire. I just try to add little special touches, like wrapping purchases and hand written notes. I love developing a great purchasing experience. My other must is that the quality of the clothes be stellar. My motto is IF I WOULDN’T WEAR IT, IT WOULDN’T BE HERE.

Do you only sell clothing?

I have an additional site on etsy http://mistyincontrera.etsy.com, where I sell vintage jewelry as is or I will revamp something.

What is your own fashion sense, does your wardrobe consist mostly of vintage pieces?

I’m a fashion chameleon. But I always have my solid basics of shirts, pants, and blazers in white, black, navy, and gray.  To me these things are timeless. I add in my vintage pieces in the era that suits my mood for the day. I WILL invest in great fitting jeans and boots.

How would you describe your personality? Would you say it’s reflected through your fashion sense?

I am a very empathetic person and like to please, which can also be my curse. I love to laugh and have a quirky since of humor.  Maybe my sincerity= quality and my quirky side= fun vintage?

Where do you see Recovered Vintage in the next few years?

I would love to have great repeat customers who rely on me and my store for their vintage wardrobe.  And one day have a store in Austin with my husband, who shares my vintage appreciation and chameleon style.
