One on One Interview with Rachel Yeomans

It was a gloomy day  on February 16th during Fashion Week but that did not deter the fashion community from coming out to the staple tents to view the Fall/Winter Collection debut of many well known designers. I was meeting with Rachel Yeomans of Rachel Anna Consulting and the Creator and Editor-in-Chief of The Working Wardrobe.com for lunch at Bryant Park Grill.

While dining I learned of Rachel’s background in corporate America. She obtained a Journalism degree from Columbia College Chicago however she has always been intrigued by personal style and how to incorporate that into the work place.  Rachel wanted to take her passion for fashion to a broader workplace, testing her working wardrobe on others, which is when The Working Wardrobe.com was born!

Not even a year old The Working Wardrobe has placed it’s stamp on the fashion world.  Her website caters to anyone looking to make a statement in the workplace while keeping it professional.  She  has worked with men and women of all ages in all industries across the board.

Before becoming a part of the work force you must first do the duties of an intern.  Most internships today are just as important as your first job. Which is why Rachel includes wardrobe advice by a college student. She offers first hand expertise on what to wear and what not to wear for a internship.  Yeomans thought this was a great way to engage her college aged readers and she was right!  For students that may not be too familiar with a particular industry and clueless as to what’s the protocol for the appropriate look this truly is a beneficial aid.   A traditional suit still works in many instances however not all! With the popularity of this portion of her website Rachel plans on hiring two more interns in 2010 to help continue to offer a student perspective on what to wear.

After gabbing about interns what I wanted to know next was how her  experience at Fashion Week had been thus far.  Although Yeomans has attended Fashion Week before as a Style Editor for Second City Style this time around was different because it’s for her own publication or her “baby” which she likes to call it.  “Attending for The Working Wardrobe is an honor and a gratifying experience” says Rachel.  Being selected to attend out of multitudes of other fashion blogs is an affirmation that The Working Wardrobe is being recognized right up there with the big boys.

During Rachel’s time in New York City she also had the opportunity to mingle with some of the most influential people within the fashion industry.  Fashion Week is not just about the shows but it’s also about being able to connect and surround yourself with other fashion industry professionals as well.  One of her most memorable moments was being able to meet Fern Mallis.  Mallis is the Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion and is actively involved in fashion related events around the world.  You can read  more about her discussion with Fern Mallis on The Working Wardrobe.

In 2010 she hopes to continue to expand both The Working Wardrobe.com and Rachel Anna Consulting.  Rachel Yeomans is definitely a name to commit to memory
