Who are the creators of Paiging Joy?
Melanie Paige & Tiffany Joy refer to entrepreneurship as the “forbidden apple.”
Once you take that first bite you’re hooked! It started simple when I sold a few pieces of clothing on eBay and then it became much larger –mailing numerous packages to customers on a daily basis. Then, came the patent my sister and I filed for a new tanning product. We just couldn’t get enough! We continued to live hundreds of miles apart, yet we still remained close through our limitless phone conversations – which always seemed to begin with Melanie saying, “I have an idea…” Finally, one day we both had a “Flash of Fashion Genius!” Why hasn’t anyone made designer clothing more affordable? Shopping networks like QVC and HSN seem to have caught on to something big when they announced “Easy Pay” and “Flex Pay.” So, why couldn’t we offer payments on designer clothing? We named the concept Luxury Layaway and the company Paiging Joy. Now, I live in New York City, where I have resided for less than a year and frequenting designer showrooms for the most coveted collections, and my sister continues to live at home with her family in Missouri, where she assumes the large responsibility of maintaining the site and online promotion with the support of her husband and their 5-year-old son.
Layaway has been such a taboo word how have you made it luxurious?
Quality clothing is quality clothing and most women are willing to spend a large amount of money on their wardrobe – just not all at once. We have sit back and watched as stores such as Kmart and Wal-Mart have offered layaway on household goods and low-end clothing, while it has oddly enough never occurred to anyone that this business model could be successfully moved into the fashion industry. Luxury Layaway offers customers the option of making monthly payments on designer clothing, bags and accessories – making it affordable to a wider range of customers and, let’s face it, people can’t spend as frivolously as they used to. Not only are we offering clothing on payments – we are also offering many items prior to their season, enabling customers to begin paying on next season’s wardrobe.
What do you love most about Paiging Joy?
Paiging Joy allows us to create a unique shopping experience for a wider range of clientele, giving our customers the option of paying via customized payment plans (i.e. – Luxury Layaway), that of which the response has been terrific. Both customers and showroom vendors have expressed their support and enthusiasm during our launch. This whole process has been a learning curve for my sister and me, but we are continuously aware that there are no limitations as to how creative we can be or how far we can push the company. Our goal is to fill a major void within the fashion industry and this is what drives us. Every day we become more excited about the future of fashion.
How did you decide which designers to be featured on your site?
We didn’t gain huge names like Halston, Catherine Malandrino, and Vivienne Westwood overnight. We had to work our way to the top, constantly pushing our concept. Luckily, it has been well received and appreciated within the fashion industry.
It is important that Paiging Joy offer the perfect mix of high quality pieces that hold a solid spot in all women’s wardrobe – not just wearable for one season, but for many years to come.
