What is the philosophy behind Nicole Bridger Designs?

It is to do what is good, what is right for the earth, its people and their spirit. For the earth we use all sustainable fabrics, for the people we use ethical production and for spirit we put “I am love” labels into every piece of clothing which helps spread positive energy.

Your dresses have a very relaxed feel to them, is this how you would you describe your average customer?

Yes, its that west coast feel.

Did you always want to be a fashion designer?

I was obsessed with barbies as a kid and began sewing my own clothes in grade 7 but I didn’t realize I could do what I love and make a career out of it until I was 16.

You have had the opportunity to study aboard while interning with Vivienne Westwood.  What did you learn most from this experience? I learned 3 main things. That is it possible to stay who you are and succeed in this industry. That I can use fashion design as a vehicle for the changes I want to see in the world. Lastly, the art of sculpting fabric.

What is the fashion scene like in Canada and how does it compare to New York City?

Its quite different in each city but overall quite conservative and casual. New York’s fashion scene is much more exciting and vibrant. However I do think that Canada is changing and we just had Vancouver’s first Eco Fashion Week, it was a huge success.

What is next for NB?

Im looking to open our first boutique in Vancouver. Im also looking into showing our next season either in NY or London. Basically just keep going, one step at a time.
