One on One Interview with Melissa D’Aloia

Melissa D'Aloia

How did you get your start as a makeup artist? I started my first experience in a Nordstrom department store at a cosmetics counter.

What is the name of your company, when was your company launched?  Melissa D’Aloia & Co.  The Power of Beauty! I turned my name into a company just this year in Jan 2010.

Fashion, makeup and hair are constantly changing, in what ways do you feel fashion influences current makeup trends? Fashion is a huge factor when it comes to make-up, it falls right along with trend of fashion trends.  A lot of times the make-up is determined on what the person/model is wearing so it does play a very huge roll.

What is your number one makeup tip? My #1 tip is “Less” is better! (unless needed).

What makeup looks for fall should we keep a look out for? Definitely look out for that powerful RED LIP!! & naked/soft eye.

Liz Cho

You have an impressive client list, ranging from ABC’s Eyewitness News to working on the “Hills”.    By rubbing elbows with these fashionable celebs what are a few fashion tips you have picked up along the way? I now notice that no matter what we have to stay in contact with the fashion world!  Regardless, of our everyday lives we must know what is going on behind the scenes, what is going to be out&what is ready to come in. I once had a client say to me “I waited to see what you had on when you arrived, I know it would be the latest trend”.

You have also worked backstage at New York Fashion Week for designers Alice & Olivia and Nanette Lepore.   What’s the best part about working backstage? The best part of being back there is you never know who you will see & it is full of energy, mayhem, & you MUST be on your toes & ready to go!!! I love just watching & looking around because you know that you can pick up any new tips!!!
