Tannya Bernadette was able to turn her dream into a reality in one short year. Keep reading to learn more about Tannya and her career as a Fashion Stylist.
How long have you been a fashion stylist?
I launched my business about a year ago, May 2009.
What led you to your career as a fashion stylist?
My experiences in life and school have led me to choose the career of a fashion stylist. At a young age I showed signs of a fashionista – painting nails for my friends, giving advice to their parents about clothing decisions, making a statement with the outfits I wore, and challenging myself by designing and sewing my winter ball dress Junior year of high school.
I went into Johnson and Wales University in Miami with the desire to work for a huge corporate company but slowly came to the realization that my priority was not my job. My priority was helping women, running my own business, being creative, and starting a family.
What are the top three tips you offer new and old clients?
Tip number one: is wear pieces you love. It changes your attitude and energy throughout the day. If you purchase pieces you dream about, chances are you’ll wear them more often.
Tip number two: don’t follow trends that do not fit your lifestyle, body type, comfort zone. I believe trends are a guide to show women new ways to use what they already own or inspire women to shop for new pieces to add to their closet.
Tip number three: always look at yourself in a full length mirror before leaving your home, that way you aren’t glancing at every window you find throughout the day. If you are looking at yourself constantly, it should be because you feel attractive. Leave confident in your final choice.
With the weather getting warmer what are some new trends you see popping up?
I am seeing tops getting shorter and shoes becoming a huge statement piece. There is nothing more attractive or chic than a spectacular pair of shoes.
What do you love most about your job?
I love that it is ever changing. I get the opportunity to meet new people and help them in a way that can drastically change their outlook on themselves and who they are in the process. It is also rewarding when people get surprised that they have a lot of wearable pieces in their closet but didn’t know how to make them work. On photo shoots I enjoy the creative escape and the presence of such passionate people.
What plans do you have for your company in 2010?
2010 is a time for me to continue growing as a person, as a business, and increasing awareness as to how a stylist can help you reach into your closet and pick out pieces that make you feel amazing.
